» Journalicious sat down with Trina for an interview recently and this was the outcome:
Journalicious.nu: Hi Trina. Wow! It’s great to talk with the Baddest B***h! Trina: Oh! Thank you.! I appreciate it.
Journalicious.nu: I must say that I love the single, That’s My Attitude. Does a new attitude really come along with the single? Trina: Yes! I’m back… I’m at a great place. I’m blessed…I’m in control of my own destiny. I have a lot to be happy about; I got my attitude, my money, new music and a fresh face. That’s My Attitude is a street record…about staying strong and positive in 2010. [It’s about] stepping your game up and being confident. And it’s always good to have a hot track for the club.
Journalicious.nu: So, what are your favorite tracks on the new album Amazin? Trina: [The title track] Amazin’, and there’s a track with Keri Hilson. It’s an upbeat, uptempo record. There’s a song called Go So Hard. It’s… totally different from the kind of records I do. At first, I didn’t know if I wanted to do this record. It’s wasn’t the kind of record I was used to doing…It’s laid back. I’m used to doing upbeat songs, but I took myself outside of my element. It’s the record that challenged me the most. Make Way
Journalicious.nu: It’s great to know that both you and your mentor Trick Daddy have new albums releasing on Slip N Slide/EMI. Does Trick make an appearance on Amazin’? Trina: No, Trick is not on this album. We did record one song that unfortunately did not make the album. But, it’s always good to be in the studio with him.
Journalicious.nu: You’ve been spotted in Dallas on many occasions. My guess is that it’s because of Denver Nuggets star Kenyon Martin. Trina: (laughs) Yes. We’re really happy. We’re in a happy place. He’s a great person. I’m happy for his career and he’s happy for my career.
Journalicious.nu: So what do you like to do when you visit Dallas? Where do you like to go? Trina: Yes. I love Dallas! Dallas is the sh*t. It’s a beautiful place with beautiful people. I’m a southern girl, so I like the heat. is a song that shows my growth. It’s about how to stay strong and relevant. That’s the type of thing that moves me. I love the [NorthPark] mall. It has all the new stores. Even if I’m not buying, I like to go and see what’s new and hot. I like to spend summers in Dallas. I go to a lot of restaurants, the soul food spots. I couldn’t live there because it’s so much good food and so many good restaurants. I love the Mexican (Tex-Mex) food. I haven’t been to any night spots. I’ll be there soon when I start the promo for the album.
Journalicious.nu: Outside of music, what else is Trina up to? Trina: Well, I just shot the video. I just attended the BET Awards. I’m excited about that. I missed Milan Fashion Week, but I’ll be there next season.I have a charity called the Diamond Doll Foundation. 1500 girls came out this year. We teach the girls how to stay grounded. It’s easy to get distracted when you’re young. It’s a big world and you can get screwed up. I was once their age. My experiences evolved me into the woman I am today. [However,] music has been my biggest influence. I also work with Brothers For Peace. They’re all about stopping the violence and they help younger kids. The organization burns and melts down bullets and turns them into jewelry. I’m also interested in teen pregnancy and child molestation.
Journalicious.nu: Wow it’s been such fun talking to you Trina. It’s like talking to a girlfriend. We are girlfriends now! This album has such a strong statement. I love it! Trina: I just want everybody to see what an amazing… place I am in life. I’m blessed. I’m Amazin.’ God is Amazin’. The album is Amazin.’

ON HER NEW ALBUM: It’s called Amazin’ and the first street record off the album is called “That’s My Attitude.” And the album is great. I’m really excited about it. I figured it’s going to be my best album. I put a lot of work into it and had a lot of control to do the things I wanted and needed to do. So I’m really proud of it.
ON COMING UP WITH THE ALBUM TITLE: Oh wow, it’s so crazy! When I think about all the work that I’ve put into my career, just all the things I have done and all the things I am actually still doing, I just think that it’s been an amazing journey and when I think about it, it’s like ‘wow!’ To be relevant in this industry where there are less and less females, I think that’s a blessing. I love what I do and I think my solid fans they’ve grown and they love what I do also.
ON VIBING IN THE STUDIO: Just being in the studio, I go off my emotions and my feelings and how I’m feeling that day. If I’m feeling great, I’m going in the studio feeling great. If I’m feeling a little emotional, emotional records might come out me. If I’m a little sad… It’s all about emotion for me.
ON BEING IN CONTROL OF RECORDING AMAZIN’: I’ve worked with some engineers that I wasn’t too happy with the work. It wasn’t a bad recording session, but it was just like I wanted to do so much more but it was like they had this view. This time I worked in the studio and I was able to control the engineering and what I wanted and how I wanted it to sound and do it as many times as I want and that was a great thing for me to be able to challenge myself in so many different directions.
ON THE BEST THING ABOUT RECORDING THIS ALBUM: I would say with this record I worked, like on one of my first singles, which is “A Million Dollar Girl” record, I worked with Mario Winans actually in the studio and it was such a great, great experience to actually be there with him in the studio to see how he works as opposed to having me submit the record and he sends it back to me. It was that whole thing of control and the chemistry of that. That was one of the greatest things about this album and just being able to control the type of direction I want to go with with this project, just to show more growth and the new evolution of Trina.
» Wow, these photos had the blogs going crazy this past weekend. Soulja Boy was recently in Jamaica for a concert and took Trina for a ride on her jet ski. The two have been talking on twitter for sometime now and Soulja Boy posted these pictures on his twitter. These are definitely causing some controversy. Check them out:
» A day after filming the 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards, Trina's publicist got together a press junket for Trina and Slip-N-Slide newcomes Jagged Edge at the Hotel Room Service in Atlanta, GA. I've added some exclusive never before seen photos of our girl looking splendid. This is definitely a look to keep!
Later that night Trina and the crew, including Pretty Money, headed to Club Ritz for the grand finale in Atlanta. It was their after party of the awards weekend. They all looked beautiful! Check out the photos:
Southern rapper Trick Daddy has opened up about wanting to get back together with Trina for some collaborations and explained their impact as a duo. He said in a recent interview:
"I need you to call Trina and you need to talk to her," he said in an interview. "I personally think that Trina is a better Trina with Trick. Those sexy-jazzy chicks, they need that thug, they need that thug nigga for guidance and protection. That's what Trina and Trick bring you. They bring you the real Bonnie and Clyde with no strings attached and nothing sugar coated. For me, I would love to work with Trina. I was actually talking to brother the other day about even just doing some songs, giving it to her and say okay this is what we're gonna do, you just do your part. I admit that I'm a prejudice person, I love kids, I hate beggars, I can't stand backstabbers, and I despise a snitch. That makes me prejudice if you think about it in a sense, another thing I'm prejudice about is my city. I'm gonna rep my city to the fullest! Trina is a part of that and under no circumstances would I ever want to see that do bad, or fail, under no pretense have I ever thought like that. I've never been considered as a chief, but I think I could hold down the tribe and until then I'll be a hell of a good Indian. So I've never been trying to take over Miami."
» Trina was in Atlanta, GA for the weekend of October 10, 2009 for the 2009 BET Hip-hop Awards. Our girl took over the city for the weekend looking gorgeous everywhere she went. At the taping of the show itself, Trina looked better than ever. These photos are definitely a must see, one by one.The hair is beautiful!
» AllHipHop.com caught up with Trina for a new interview. I've added some questions from the interview which I thought were interesting. Click here to read the rest of the interview.
AllHipHop.com: So you have an album coming out. What avenue did you take creatively with this one? Is it different from your previous four? Trina: Yep, the album is titled Amazin’ and I’m really excited about this project. It truly shows my growth as an artist…as every new album from an artist should. It’s just…a lot of change, it’s energetic, it’s raw, it’s street and it’s diverse…it’s everything! Singing on it brought the emotion. It has a lot of really good features too. I got Keri Hilson, Ludacris…and so much more. It’s going to be a lot of surprises for y’all. I also have my new group, Pretty Money, on there.
AllHipHop.com: Well going with that…I know you have a clothing line, a perfume line, a foundation for young women. How are all of those things going? Trina: Right now we’re working on revamping my clothing line and perfume collection. You know, the economy is really crazy and I want to make the clothing more affordable, but of course glamorous at the same time. As far as the foundation, that’s really great. Right now it has more than 600 people helping out. I’m changing it up a little bit. Instead of the usual panels, I want to make it more of a show. We discuss sex, we talk about alcoholism…we’re trying to show these young women that all of that is definitely not the way. We get the girls glammed up and fly too, giving them that extra boost to show them they don’t need all that other stuff. Just be confident in who you are, you know? We want to bring awareness to the reality of what’s going on. Girls that are as young as 13 ask me about sex and I’m like man, that’s so young! But it’s absolutely a reality we have to face, and I’m glad they feel they can come and talk to me about these things. I want to be able to help whoever I can. I’m also involved in another foundation. It’s new; it’s called Bullets for Peace. We’re working towards not making guns accessible. I almost lost my brother to gun violence and with all of these shootings and just plain violence amongst people, it has to stop.
AllHipHop.com: Now your lyrics in the past have been overtly sexual and suggestive, as well as pictures. At times it seemed like people would focus on your assets more than your talent. Do you feel that's changed now and that people focus more on Trina the entertainer and entrepreneur, or are you still struggling with that? Trina: I mean, if I struggled with it and let it really get to me, I wouldn’t still be here. I had to learn to embrace it, and the fans definitely did too. I’m not going to sit here and act like I don’t know how that happened. I know what I rap…or rapped about. It’s entertainment. But again, I’ve grown and with every album you’ve seen so much more diversity with my music. But yet, there is a very manipulative aspect to this industry too. Especially with the pictures….a lot of times I wasn’t trying to pose that way. It’s like I’ll take a million nice pictures not focusing on my butt, and they get that one shot that did and that’s what they print. I look back sometimes and see all these pictures and think man why is my butt showing in every single one? It’s just how it is. People judge you for everything and they’ll say what they say, but at the end of it all, just know your craft and know what you’re capable of. What they say doesn’t define who you are…you do. My fans have been with me since day one and embraced who I am and my growth and that’s all that truly matters.
AllHipHop.com: You’ve definitely lasted a very long time in this industry. That’s a lot more than most can say. What do you think you've done that's attributed to your longevity in the game? Trina: I think it’s my confidence and the fact I give people props. I love seeing everyone make it and I love what I do. Hating on people and causing beefs and drama….it’s not going to get you very far at all. You get too busy focusing on other people that you lose focus on yourself and what you’re doing. I’ve been getting money for the longest and I’m not stopping.
AllHipHop.com: Do you have any last words? Trina: Well, can’t forget I’m doing my first movie role in The Cookout 2. It’s a small part but I’m proud of it and I’m really excited about it. Like I said earlier I have my reality show I’m working on. I’m definitely looking into more movie roles as well. I’m strong, I’m independent and I’m happy. And of course the album coming soon….it’s Amazin’!
